Cheers by xx--ingie--xx Cheers by xx--ingie--xx
Well this is the New Year's pic I mentioned. :XD:

If you happen to recoil from the line art, it's because it was completely freehanded. No awesome pen tools or anything. So forgive the crappiness until I can get my hands on Photoshop. ^^; Oh yeah, this picture was also completely drawn from scratch on the comp. No paper and no annoying scanning, yay!

And what's that? Ingie used cell shading?? Yeah, it's not really my style, but it's oh so much faster and easier! I'm not very used to it yet though... but I'll probably use it again at some point in the future.

Cheers! :D

Aw! How do you make such awesome pictures? Photoshop I presume.

Thanks! Actually I use two different programs. I draw and color in OpenCanvas and sometimes I do touch-ups in a program called Paint Shop Pro. Neither are as good as Photoshop, and they don't have nearly as many 'cheat techniques' as Photoshop, especially OpenCanvas.

do you have to pay for opencanvas? would it be possible to create such a masterpiece on GIMP?

That depends on which version of OpenCanvas you get. I have version 4.5 Plus and it cost me about $70 (CHEAP compared to Photoshop). I can't answer your second question because I'm not familiar with GIMP, sorry. ^^;

oh. well name a few tools you use (like how u get their hair so shiney) and ill see if GIMP has them.

Well, that all depends. If I want an unrealistic super-shiny look, like in this picture, I'll sometimes use the darken/lighten tool in Paint Shop Pro. But the same thing can be done using just the regular paint/airbrush tool in OC and controlling how lightly you apply certain colors to the picture (I actually try not to use pure white much in the more realistic pictures; usually an off-while or really pale color of some sort is better). The only tools I really use nowadays (this picture is old, and my technique has improved since then) is the pencil (for drawing) or airbrush (for coloring) tool in OC. It's the tablet that makes all the difference because it's touch sensitive. I can use it like a real pencil or paintbrush (or as close as I can get). Do you have a tablet?

Yeah, it's really hard to make good digital art without a tablet... I actually used a mouse for a while when I was younger, and it's just painful compared to a tablet. The good ones are pretty expensive though...

All the lovely, truthful comments on this great pic of Link have already been said (sice that's the price of coming in a year late ^^;)--but I still think it's fantastic! I'm really impressed with the hand--they're so hard to draw, and having them at a weird angle certainly doesn't help...

It looks fine Ingie, the only thing I have to say it that the glass looks kind of weird to me. Like it's been stretched on the right side. The coloring is perfect (I'm totally horrible at cell shading, I usually use Paint Shop's Acrylic brush and just work on it like I would a painting.) All in all, it's lovely.

Thank you! Yeah, omigosh, the glass is terrible. That's because I had to draw it by hand, there were no symmetrical shape/line tools in the program I was using. I'll go back and fix it some day... ^^;

Aw I'm horrible with symmetry too. All ya need is a bit more practice and you get better at drawing glasses. XD I should know, I still need to work on a bunch of stuff.
